Resident Evil 5 PS3 Demo Impressions

The Resident Evil 5 demo hit Playstation Network Monday. Here are our thoughts on the PS3 version vs the Xbox 360 version.

Rather than rewrite everything we had in our initial Resident Evil 5 demo impressions from the Xbox 360 version of the demo that we played last week, we're going to focus on what we noticed with the PS3 version.

The one thing that we noticed, and this pertains to the Xbox 360 version, is that we really don't like the controls that much... They've added four different control schemes, and we spent a lot more time with them on the PS3 version of the demo to see if we liked any of them. There's only one control scheme, I think it was "B", that allows you to both moe and shoot at the same time. On first blush, you would think this is the one for all those FPS gamers, but the right-stick is for "Adjusting View." It doesn't let you rotate as you would expect, it turns your viewpoint, so that you can move and shoot at the same time, but when you release the stick, it snaps your view right back to the front-facing perspective. Another words, your feet don't move!

The other schemes state that the left-stick will allow you to strafe, but whenever we pulled up our sites to shoot, our feet stuck to the ground.

Capcom has stated that they purposely make you stop moving when you want to shoot... I'm not sure if this is because they want you to stop and enjoy the surroundings, or what, but it would be nice if they would adjust it to be like most of the other shooters out there...

Overall there really wasn't anything different with the PS3 version, other than we had something to fun to play on our PS3! The download was also about 300MB larger than the Xbox 360 version... We're not sure exactly why as there wasn't any additional content, etc...

Make sure and head over to our first impressions of the Resident Evil 5 demo to get our other thoughts.
